407 FARMERS HAD LOANS OVER RS 2 LAKH, MAJORITY OF WAIVERS WERE FROM RS. 50000 TO LESS THAN RS 1 LAKH

LUDHIANA SAW MAXIMUM FARMERS GETTING DEBT WAIVER CERTIFICATES TODAY

Of the 29192 farmers who got the benefit of the state government’s farm debt waiver scheme today, the majority had loan amounts ranging from Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 1 lakh, while in terms of the districts benefitted, Ludhiana turned out to be the biggest beneficiary, with as many as 11305 farmers getting waiver certificates.
These farmers received their waiver certificates disbursed in the second instalment of the debt waiver scheme, which will eventually cover 10.25 lakh small and marginal farmers by November 2018. After the loans from cooperative banks are waived off for the eligible farmers, those from other banks will be covered, Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh announced at a state-level function for the distribution of the certificates here this afternoon.
There are 407 farmers who had loans over Rs 2 lakh, which have been waived off in this phase, while another 311 got their waiver certificates today for amounts ranging from Rs. 1.75 lakh to less than Rs 2 lakh, an official spokesperson said, giving the break-up of today’s beneficiaries. The number of farmers with loans from Rs 1.5 lakh to less than Rs. 1.75 lakh was 470.
There was a large chunk of farmers (2639) whose loan certificates related to amounts from Rs 1 lakh to less than Rs 1.5 lakh, while the remaining 15928 had debts less than Rs. 50,000.
District-wise details of today’s loan waiver beneficiaries are: Fazilka (5619), Ferozepur (1883), Jalandhar (7625), Kapurthala (2760) and Ludhiana (11305), the spokesperson disclosed.
