Powercom protesters booked for flouting social distancing norms

Nabaz-e-Punjab, Mohali, July 17:
A day after the Powercom and Transco Contract Employees Union Punjab staged a protest at Labour Bhawan, Phase-10, Mohali, the local police registered a case against them for violating social distancing norms.
A case has been registered against the protesters under Sections 188, 269, 270 of the IPC and 51 of the Disaster Management Act at the Phase 11 police station today.
As per the police, around 7 persons are booked in the case by names including Union State President Balihar Singh, General Secretary Virinder Singh, Vice President Rajesh Kumar among the rest of protesters.
Station House Officer of Phase 11 police station, Inspector Jagdeep Singh said, “We have registered a FIR in this regard as the protesters flouted the social distancing norms. No statement has been registered yet from any of the accused.”
It is to be noted, around 150 persons took part in the protest on Wednesday.
The employees had demanded the reinstatement of retrenched workers, work order system should be immediately started in Barnala circle, contract employees should be made permanent and job and proper compensation to the family members of power workers who died due to electric shock while on duty.
