Harshabab Sidhu
Nabaz-e-Punjab, Mohali, August 10:
In view of the increasing cases of Coronavirus across the district, Civil Surgeon Dr Manjit Singh again appealed to the people not to panic over this deadly disease but to take all necessary precautions. He said that one of the main reasons for the rapid increase in cases is that most of the people are totally ignoring the basic guidelines of keeping face covered, keeping distance from each other and washing hands frequently.
Dr Manjit Singh said, “There is an urgent need to strictly follow the necessary precautions. Although all the necessary arrangements have already been put in place and the health department has been working untiringly from day one to curb the spread of the disease but the careless attitude of the people towards the disease could worsen the situation. ‘ He informed that apart from Gyan Hospital Banur, a Level 1 ‘Covid Care Center’ has now been set up at Chandigarh University Gharuan where Covid-19 patients would be admitted. He said that although no stone has been left unturned in terms of the necessary arrangements by the district administration but it is difficult to control the disease without the co-operation and support of the residents.
In markets, people are walking around without covering their faces and without any aim which is detrimental for their own health and safety. He again appealed to the people to not step out of homes aimlessly and if there is an urgent need to move out, the face should be covered with masks, handkerchiefs, cloths etc. and necessary distance from each other should be maintained. It is also important to wash hands frequently with soap and water.
Dr Manjit Singh asked people to do online transactions to pay for water, electricity, insurance, mobile, cylinder refill and other bills, instead of going to the market and offices for the same. He said that shops should not be crowded with customers and social distance should be maintained in all circumstances. ‘People should visit hospitals in case of any serious problem only. Instead, they should contact the health department’s helpline 104 for the expert advice.” he said.
