Multani case: Search for Sumedh Saini continues, police still clueless

SIT records statements of 26 security members of ex DGP

Nabaz-e-Punjab, Mohali, September 13:
A day after the Mohali session court issued non-bailable arrest warrants against the accused former DGP, Sumedh Saini, the police have not found any concrete clues about Saini’s presence so far. Saini’s arrest still remains a bone in the neck of the police.
A member of the SIT said that various raids were also carried out on Sunday regarding the arrest of the former DGP and several police teams in civilian uniforms were keeping a close eye on Saini’s residence in Chandigarh and other places including Delhi. At the same time, legal action is being taken in the courts.
Meanwhile, the members of the SIT today questioned and recorded the statements of 26 police officials, who remained part of the Saini’s security crew. Many of these cops including Inspectors, Sub Inspectors, Assistant Sub Inspectors, Head Constables and Constables, were present with former DGP at his residence in Punch Sheel Park, New Delhi in August month. However, all the cops were later returned to Punjab or Chandigarh on the instructions of Saini.
Defense lawyers, meanwhile, are working to rectify the flaws in the former DGP’s anticipatory bail petition. Earlier, the apex court had returned the file due to several deficiencies in Saini’s bail application. The former DGP had filed an application in the Supreme Court through his lawyers challenging the decision of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The affidavit attached to the anticipatory bail application of the former police officer has not been attested by any competent authority. Apart from this, there were several other shortcomings in the petition.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government has already filed a caveat file in the Supreme Court. In this regard, Special Public Prosecutor Sartej Singh Narula said that the government has demanded from the Supreme Court that the state should also be heard during the hearing of Saini’s anticipatory bail application.
