Nabaz-e-Punjab, Mohali, September 16:
The anti-farmer face of the BJP has been exposed with the introduction of three ordinances in the Lok Sabha by the central government. The farmers and farmers’ organizations of Punjab are staging massive protests against the government and a similar kind of protest held here today. Various other farmers’ organizations including Bhartiya Kisan Union (Rajwal) staged a massive state level protest against the Union government in Mohali on Wednesday and chanted slogans against the rulers. Indian Farmers Union (Rajewal) President Balbir Singh Rajewal, Indian Farmers Association President Satnam Singh Behru, Kisan Union (Lakhowal) Harinder Singh Lakhowal, Kisan Union (Sidhupur) State Vice President Mehr Singh Thedi, Kisan Union (Doaba) Manjit Singh Rai, Harmeet Singh Qadian of Kisan Union (Qadian) and other farmers’ organizations were present on the occasion. The leaders said that the Union government wanted to sell the commodities to the corporate houses by not giving them the right price to the farmers. They said that the farmers of Punjab were meeting 70 to 80 per cent of the foodgrain requirement of the country but on the other hand the rulers were trying to destroy the farming.
As per the information received, the caravans of farmers started arriving at Gurdwara Amb Sahib Phase 8 here around 10 am and a large crowd of farmers had gathered here till 12 pm.
After this the farmers in black robes marched towards Chandigarh to hand over their demand letter to the Governor of Punjab, but the police blocked the way of the farmers near YPS Chowk and did not allow them to enter the UT boundary due to which the farmers staged a dharna on the road in the scorching sun. Although later Mohali and UT administration officials took the leading leaders of the farmers’ unions to meet the Governor, the Governor did not take the demand form from the farmers and a message was posted at the gate to the farmers that they should submit the demand letter to the Governor’s ADC. But the farmers did not hand over the demand form to the ADC and protested by chanting slogans outside the Governor’s gate and returned to the Mohali dharna site.
The spokespersons appealed to the farmers not to allow the MPs who had voted in favor of the bills to bring the ordinances into law to enter the villages. The protesters said due to the lethal policies of the Center, the farmers were already on the verge of suicide and now with the implementation of new laws, there was a feeling of uneasiness, resentment and insecurity among the farmers.
