Similar orders have been issued for women and minors. The SSP gave clear instructions that these guidelines should be implemented with immediate effect in the entire district. The SSP told that he came to the office today to meet an 83-year-old man. He said that the police officers were repeatedly calling him to the police station and harassing him. The district police chief has taken serious note of this. “We should all respect the elders and treat them with respect,” he said. The SSP made it clear that he believed in people-friendly policing and issued the directives in keeping with his word. Under these latest guidelines, the elderly and women will no longer have to go to the police station for any kind of investigation. Instead, the staff of the concerned police station will go to the elder’s house to talk to him or take a statement. The SSP said that concrete steps would be taken to make Mohali crime free. He sought the co-operation of the people to curb street crime and said that no action could be taken without the co-operation of the people. At the same time, he sternly told the youth that if they did not abide by the social norms, the police would have to be strict. He said that open riots in the markets and violators of law would not be spared at all.
