The suspects, Vipan Kumar and Rakesh Manchanda alias Rinku were indulging in betting on the ongoing IPL matches. Mohali SP (City) HS Virk said, “Yesterday the suspects were sent to one-day police custody. Today the court has extended their remand for three days. We are interrogating them to discover the hidden facts of their scandal. The two suspects in this case, Tarush Dhawan and Malkit Singh are yet to arrested and the raids are on to nab them soon.” The police had recovered four laptops, 14 mobile phones, a phone landing machine and 570 grams of heroin worth Rs2.85 crore from their possession. In addition to this, four diaries containing records of betting, were also recovered by the police during the raid. Inspector Rajiv Kumar, Station House Officer of Mataur police station said, “We are checking their diaries, that can reveal the secrets behind their illegal business. Secondly, the police are also getting the details of their properties. More information can be obtained after arresting the remaining two suspects in this case.” It was not revealed by the police that from where the suspects were purchasing the drug and where there were selling it to the customers. On Saturday, the police had received a tip-off that online betting was going on at a flat in Homeland Society, Sector 70, here. A team led by Gursher Singh Sandhu, DSP (City1), and Rajiv Kumar, SHO of the Mataur police station, conducted a raid on the flat and nabbed the suspects betting on an IPL match. A case under Sections 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Sections 13, 3 and 67 of the Gambling Act and Sections 21, 29, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered against the suspects at the Mataur police station.
