Road mishap claims the life of a youth

A 19-year-old man died in a road accident while his two friends got injured last night when a speeding sedan fell off the bridge on the Airport road here.
The deceased has been identified as Desraj, a resident of Balongi.
The incident was occurred around 12.30 am last night when Desraj, Pradeep and Deepak, all residents of Balongi, were going towards Mohali from Sunny Enclave on the Airport road in their Swift Dzire. In the meantime, the speeding car lost its control after a stray cattle came in front of them and hit the bridge on the road and fell down. The trio was shifted to the Civil Hospital here where doctors declared Desraj brought dead. The car driver, Pradeep alias Pargat was later shifted to PGI, Chandigarh where he was undergoing his treatment. Deepak was discharged today from the hospital, said the police.
Inspector Amardeep Singh, Station House Officer of Balongi police station, said, “The accident took place after a stray cattle appears in front of the vehicle. The car fell down from a height of approximately 15 feet as there was a gap between two parallel bridges on the road. Desraj was sitting on the conductor seat and Deepak was sitting on the back seat. We have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC in this regard.”
The post mortem of the deceased was conducted today at the Civil Hospital in Phase 6 here and the body was handed over to his family members.
