Vigilance Nabs clerk for taking bribe rs. 1500

Nabaz-e-Punjab, Chandigarh, January 1:
State Vigilance Bureau today arrested clerk Jagjeet Singh posted at P.S.P.C.L office, Batala for taking a bribe of Rs. 1500.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau (VB) Punjab said the accused clerk was arrested on the complaint of Harmanpreet Singh resident of Batala city, Gurdaspur district. The complainant has informed the VB that the accused clerk was demanding bribe of Rs. 2,000 to help him to waive off 200 units in the electricity bill for backward class consumers. It is mentioned here that Punjab Government had already implemented a welfare scheme for waving off 200 units in electricity consumer bill of backward class people. He further added that earlier to this the accused clerk took a bribe amount to Rs 500/- as the first installment from the complaint.
After verifying his information, a vigilance team laid a trap and the accused clerk was arrested on the spot while taking bribe of Rs. 1,500 as second instalment from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
He informed that a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against him at VB police station, Amritsar and further investigation is under progress.
