Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Share on Pinterest Share on Linkedin Farm Laws Protest: One man many roles “Rakesh Tikait” Nabaz-e-Punjab, Mohali\Delhi, January 29: Rakesh Tikait, the national spokesperson of Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) gained the sympathy of a large number of farmers as well as common people following his emotional statement last night following the orders of Uttar Pradesh administration to vacate the Ghazipur border site. The life of Tikait has witnessed many twists so far. Rakesh Tikait’s father, Mahendra Singh Tikait alias Baba Tikait, who was the president of Indian Farmers Union (IFU), had also gained love and popularity from the people of Uttar Pradesh as he conducted several protests for the farmers. After his death two decades ago, Rakesh chosen to walk on the path of his father. During this time period of agitations, he was sent to jail 44 times. Rakesh Tikait was born on June 4, 1969 at Sisauli village in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh. He studied LLB from Meerut University and started his job as a constable in Delhi police in 1992. Rakesh and his wife, Sunita, have two children. Rakesh quit his police job and joined the massive agitation started by his father at Red Fort in 1993. The political career of Rakesh Tikait was not so good and it did not suit him. In 2007, he fought independently from Khatauli assembly seat in Muzaffarnagar. After that in 2014, he contested the elections from Amroha Lok Sabha seat for Rashtriya Lok Dal party. He lost both the elections following which he left the politics and again moved to his ‘agitation life’.
