District banks contributing to Government initiatives for Women Empowerment- DC

PNB’s Rural Self Employment and Training Institute conducts 280 training batches up to December 2020

7375 women trained, 4375 women got employment

The banks in the district are contributing in a big way for the implementation of government initiatives for empowerment of women, said Girish Dayalan, Deputy Commissioner.
He informed that in SAS Nagar, Punjab National Bank has opened Rural Self Employment and Training Institute (RSETI) wherein women are trained for different skills like Stitching, Embroidery, Phulkari, Cutting and Tailoring, making of Jute Bags and training for Beauty parlour services. RSETI SAS Nagar has conducted 280 training batches and trained 7375 women up to December 2020. Out of these 4375 women have got employment and are well settled either through assistance provided as bank finance or by employment on a wage basis. They are all earning their livelihood and are self-independent. At RSETI rigorous efforts are afoot for securing employment of other women trainees as well.
Out of all the women trained at RSETI, journey Smt. Jasvir Kaur from a homemaker to an independent and confident entrepreneur is indeed inspiring informed Lead District Manager Upkaar Singh He informed that Jasvir Kaur lives in a small village Dharak Kalan. She belongs to a middle-class family and wanted to help her family financially. She got 6 days training in RSETI for Beautician Services. Further, RSETI assisted her in availing a bank loan of Rs. 5.00 Lakhs in order to start her business. Today she is running her own Parlour in Kharar and earning Rs.20,000/- per month.
The six-day training worked wonders for her and proved to be the turning point of her life from becoming a financial burden to financially independent.
“We being a joint family and only single hand earning for 6 family members was a challenge. I was not able to reduce the financial burden on my husband’s shoulders. I was not even graduate and was not able to decide what can I do to earn a living and assist my husband. A big thanks to Government of Punjab, due to its platform RSETI run by Punjab National Bank, SAS Nagar, wherein I got an opportunity to get training for Beautician Services and a Bank Loan assistance of Rupees Five Lakhs (Rs.5,00,000/-) was a dream come true. I opened my own parlour worked hard and today I am earning Rs.20,000/- month. This has helped me in meeting our needs and providing a helping hand to my husband. I am thankful to concerned authorities for providing such a platform for women empowerment,’’ said Jasvir Kaur.
