Veterinary doctors can play vital role to improve economy of farmers: Dr Walia

Nabaz-e-Punjab, Mohali, February 19:
Veterinary doctors of animal husbandry department can make humongous contribution in raising the economic status of farmers of the Punjab State. This was stated, today, by Member, Punjab State Veterinary Council and former Joint Director of Animal Husbandry department, Dr Gurinder Singh Walia, at the concluding function of three day training on Veterinary Jurisprudence and ethics held at Livestock Complex in Sector 68, Mohali. The training was organised for newly recruited 112 veterinary officers, which besides Mohali is being held at three other places in the state- Patiala, Bathinda and Amritsar. At Mohali 33 doctors from SAS Nagar, Patiala, Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, and Fatehgarh Sahib participated in the 3 day training programme. Dr Sunil Dutt Bhardwaj and Dr Harjinder Singh Deosi were the subject experts who imparted the training. The trainees were distributed certificates and livestock management, Veterinary diagnosis and ethics books.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Walia said that agriculture production had reached its plateau and little growth was expected on this front, hence animal husbandry and allied sectors like poultry, piggery, goatery etc. hold great prominence in fostering the rural economy and agriculture growth rate as a whole.
Dr Walia urged the doctors to work with honesty, sincerity, and diligence to serve the dumb creatures and also to attend different trainings organized by the Punjab State Veterinary Council from time to time in order to keep themselves abreast of the new advances and techniques in the field of veterinary medicine.
