Mohali police nabbed two Nepali women with 11kg of opium

Nabaz-e-Punjab, Mohali, March 27:
Two Nepal-based women have been arrested by the Mohali police, who were transporting 11kg of opium from Delhi to Shimla.
The accused have been identified as Lakshmi (41) and Lela (42), both natives of Nepal.

Dr. Ravjot Grewal, IPS, SP (Rural) and Gurpreet Singh Bains, PPS, DSP Derabassi, Inspector Sukhbir Singh, SHO PS Lalru along with his police team nabbed two women on 23/03/2021 while patrolling near the Govt Smart School, link road Lalru. The two women, both originally from Nepal, were found to be suspicious. were carrying bags, which were then searched in the presence of Sh. Gurpreet Singh Bains, PPS, DSP, SAS Nagar and were found to contain opium inconsiderable amount. One women’s bag contained 6 kg of opium while the other one’s had 5 kg of the same, a total of 11 kgs in all.

An FIR no. 52 date 23.03.2021 u/s 18-61-85 NDPS Act, Ps Lalru, was registered against the accused, following which they were arrested. The accused were produced in the court of Hon’ble Sh. Jagmeet Singh JMIC Derabassi and a police remand was obtained

During interrogation, the women revealed that they were to come to India on the pretext of selling vegetables. At Bus Stand in Delhi, they came in contact with a person of Nepalese origin, who asked them to deliver one of his parcels in Shimla, for which they would be paid. The women were lured in the greed of money and accepted to deliver the parcel. Where after they were caught in Latru.

SP Ravjot Kaur Grewal said, “A thorough interrogation of the accused is underway and we are hopeful of other revelations.”
