AICTE should introduce more reforms in 2019-2020 Approval Handbook Process: PUCA

Nabaz-e-Punjab Bureau, Mohali, 23rd December:
A Delegation of Punjab Unaided Colleges Association (PUCA) expressed serious concern on dying Technical Unaided Colleges in the Country. PUCA urged All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi that without compromising the quality of education & to save unaided Colleges, AICTE should introduce a series of reforms in the Approval Process Handbook in 2019-20 to revive the education sector in the Country.
Fresh Reforms to boost up the Colleges:
Dr. Anshu Kataria, President, PUCA while speaking said that as per the records in 2017-18, 545 New Technical Institutions have came into existence while 54 Institutes got closed down out of which 25 were Engineering Colleges. The intake in Engineering and Technology was 27.12 lakh; in Management- 3.73 lakh; in Pharmacy- 2.04 lakh; in Architecture over 13 thousand and in Hotel Management around 8 thousand.
Knowing the fact that half of the seats remained vacant in last year, AICTE should introduce fresh reforms to revive and boost up the unaided Colleges in the Country.
More emphasis on digital technology than other resources:
Sh. Amit Sharma, Senior Vice President, PUCA said that though land, building, library etc are also important but AICTE should not emphasize more on these. We are living in the age of Information Technology where smart phones, laptops, tabs etc are bigger infrastructure hence AICTE should emphasize on these smart technologies so that the students can access their curriculum anywhere and everywhere easily.
Uniformity in AICTE:
S. Gurfateh Gill, Vice President, PUCA said that the norms of Pharmacy Council and Architecture Council overlap with that of AICTE. Hence AICTE should bring uniformity within the system.
