The cameras have been installed at 16 locations covering about 18 kilometre stretch falling under Phase 1 and Matour Police Stations. This is an artificial intelligence based video surveillance system and is expected to play an important role in securing the city. Installation of as many as 200 similar cameras is under progress at Kharar and Zirakpur subdivisions at a cost of over Rs.2 cr, informed the SSP and added the installation will be accomplished by 15 January 2021. Replying to a media query, the SSP informed that the State Police Department has provided ample funds for the maintenance/replacement of the cameras to ensure unfailing surveillance. He also informed that very soon State Government is going to initiate Rs. 10 crore surveillance project for security via ‘third eye’, for the entire city. Later, talking to prominent people present on the occasion, SSP Satinder Singh called upon them to support police in making the city safe and asked them to come forward and report any suspicious activity in their neighbourhoods. Harvinder Singh Virk, SP City , Gursher Singh Sandhu, DSP City 1 and prominent persons of the city including former councillor KS Bedi, Amrik S Somal, BB Maini, Surinder Rajput were present on the occasion. Some of the unique technical features of the installation of cameras under Safe Mohali Project include: Private high speed optical fiber network-For the entire stretch of this project a private gigabit speed optical fiber network has been deployed covering over 18 kilometres. A private network allows to be secure and uninterrupted by other users as against the case when an internet service provider’s network or shared bandwidths are used. Because this network is exclusive, so a very high level of data security is possible. Further advanced date security measures have been used to deter hackers. Real- time automatic number plate detection and recording-The Cameras are equipped with Artificial intelligence and hence they can automatically capture number plate, identify the number plates digits and record them with historical information of location and time. Real time monitoring of every camera- each camera provides real- time live view at the Central control station. This will also enable to know if a camera is down and when a camera needs repair hence better management of system is possible. Automatic Restoration management-This system allows the cameras to retain footage and information in case there is a power or network breakdown. Advanced analytics-This system can automatically geo-locate every camera in its network and also trace roots of suspect vehicles based on the intercept made by cameras at different locations. Automatically tracing a vehicle’s route if its number plate information is given to the system, is possible. The project is developed and executed by Egis
