The Special Investigation Team (SIT) today filed an application in the court of Mohali Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Ravtesh Inderjit Singh through Special Public Prosecutor Sartej Singh Narula and Deputy District Attorney Manjit Singh seeking issuance of arrest warrant against the former DGP. . Considering various aspects, the court issued an arrest warrant for Sumedh Saini and directed the SHO (Station House Officer) of Mataur Police Station, Mohali to arrest the accused Saini and produce him in the Mohali court by September 25. SIT Chief Harmandeep Singh Hans, DSP Bikramjit Singh Brar, Special Public Prosecutor Sartej Singh Narula and Deputy District Attorney Manjit Singh were also present during the hearing. The SIT told the court that after a criminal case was registered against Sumedh Saini at the Mataur police station on May 6, the police started searching for him but later he was granted bail but later, on the statements of eyewitnesses, murder charge was also registered against the former DGP. Mohali session court and the high court have rejected the anticipatory bail application of the accused. Mohali police have been conducting raids in his native village Khuda Karala (Hoshiarpur), Chandigarh, Delhi, Mandi area of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir in search of the accused but so far he has not been apprehended nor has he surrendered himself. The house and other locations of the accused’s business friend have also been raided but no clues have been found about him so far. The court considered various aspects and issued arrest warrants for the former police chief. The former DGP had knocked on the door of the Supreme Court for seeking his anticipatory bail but the country’s highest court on Friday withdrew the file due to major errors in the petition. Due to which the concern of the accused has increased considerably. Saini had filed an application in the Supreme Court through his lawyers challenging the decision of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. It was informed that the affidavit attached to the anticipatory bail application of the former police officer has not been attested by any competent authority. Apart from this, there are many other errors and omissions in the petition. It may take some more time to verify the affidavit filed by Saini and rectify the errors in the petition. Even today, police teams have raided many places but as of now, no information has been received about Saini. The former DGP’s phone is also being switched off. Police have also started tracking down Saini’s friends and close relatives. A member of the SIT said that after the issuance of the arrest warrant, now even an ordinary citizen can arrest the accused and hand him over to the police or the court. Police have also sought the cooperation of the public to share information about Saini’s whereabouts.
