Bharti Kisan Union (Lakhowal) President Ajmer Singh Lakhowal and General Secretary Harinder Singh Lakhowal have knocked on the door of the Supreme Court. Lakhowal has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the Union Government through his counsels GPS Ghumman and GS Ghumman, advocates of Punjab and Haryana High Court, seeking cancellation of anti-farmer farming laws. GS Ghuman and GPS Ghuman confirmed this and said that the petition has been filed today and a hearing is likely to be held soon in this regard. “The central government did not consider it necessary to seek the opinion of farmers or any farmers association before enacting and enforcing laws on farmers. The opinion of the concerned parties should be known first and their suggestions should be considered before passing any laws but the rulers did not even try to talk to the farmers or their representatives about the agricultural laws, but instead resorted to coercive and unilateral procedure to pass these ordinances,” said GS Ghuman and GPS Ghuman. The counsel added there are many loopholes in agricultural laws. These laws are not in the interest of the farmers but are directly benefiting the corporate houses. Referring to the petition, they said due to the majority of the Central government, the Agriculture Bill was forcibly passed in the interest of the farmers but the laws were wrongly passed by the rulers in the Rajya Sabha, they added. Farmer leaders termed the BJP government at the Centre as anti-farmer and said that the rulers of the country were on the verge of annihilation. They said that the farmers of Punjab contributed 70 to 80 per cent to the foodgrains of the country but the government was bent on destroying the farmers for the benefit of its favorite corporate houses. They said that the struggle would continue till the anti-farmer agriculture laws were repealed from the outset. GS Ghuman and GPS Ghuman said that under Article 32 of the constitution, the Supreme Court has the power to cancel these ordinances. Due to which they have knocked on the door of the court. They also informed that the farmers of Maharashtra and Karnataka have filed petitions and the human rights organization of England is also pursuing the interests of the farmers.
