CA Gmada holds meeting with promoters on issue of waste management.

Moneesh Kumar discusses measures for garbage disposal in different project

Nabaz-e-Punjab, Mohali, June 28, 2024:
Taking into account, the issue of garbage disposal in the city which is persisting for the past few days, Sh. Moneesh Kumar, IAS, Chief Administrator, GMADA today conducted a meeting with the promoters having real estate projects in GMADA area. At the outset, the Chief Administrator, apprised the promoters that earlier the waste generated from the city was dumped at the land-fill waste dumping site situated in Phase 8-B, SAS Nagar, but in view of recent orders of the Hon’ble High Court as well as National Green Tribunal to adopt bioremediation measures at the site, waste dumping at this site had been stopped with immediate effect.
Informing the promoters, that GMADA was already taking steps to redress the issue of garbage disposal in its area, Mr. Kumar asked them to adopt similar measures on priority for proper disposal of waste in their projects. He told them that while 2 Resource Management Centres (RMC) one each in Aerocity and Sector 88-89 were being constructed, work to construct another (RMC) at IT City would start soon. The Chief Administrator suggested to all present in the meeting to pay special attention towards door to door garbage collection, segregation of the waste and finally its disposal at the land-fill site. He suggested them to rope in vendors who are already executing the work of garbage disposal.
Mr. Kumar also cautioned the promoters to refrain from disposing the garbage in low laying areas or in or around any choe as the monsoon season is on the advent and this may result into contamination of the choe as well as spread of epidemics. Any activity of dumping the garbage in open pits or choes would invite penalty from the Development Authority, he said.
While assuring the promoters that the Development Authority was open to any suggestions on disposal of garbage, the Chief Administrator exhorted them to work with responsibility and assist GMADA in addressing the issue so that the city residents do not face any inconvenience. He said that littered surroundings give a bad reflection of the city and it was the collective duty of GMADA and the promoters to ensure that the area remains livable and there is no damage to the environment.
