Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, the senior leader of the AAP Manwinder Singh Giaspura said that as per the investigation carried out by the STF in the case pertaining to drug smuggling in which four persons including Gurdeep Rano was arrested by the STF, recovering 5.39 kg heroin along with Rs 21 lakh drug money in November last year, several names of senior police officials had cropped up but no action was taken against them so far. Lashing out at Captain Amarinder Singh, Giaspura said that no action was taken against senior officials including IPS Paramraj Singh Umranangal, DSP Varinderjit Singh Thind, SP Seva Singh Mali, and DSP Parminder Singh Bath, whose names had allegedly come up during the probe. “Captain Amarinder Singh and his aides are shielding the officials and politicians who are involved in the drug smuggling trade linked with Gurdeep Rano. The detailed report of the STF should be made public,” he said. The AAP leader said that the STF report revealed that all these officials in collusion with the accused persons and others were running the drug trade and were also into other illegal businesses including sex racket, occupying lands and by taking a bribe, used to harass the people. He said that the Captain government should immediately take strict action against these officials so that all the ‘mafias’ including drugs, sand, liquor, and land would be eradicated from Punjab. “It has come up in the report that these selected police officials are behind these mafias, who are not only tainting the uniform of a policeman but also blemishing the image of honest police officers and the department,” he added. Giaspura further said that the Aam Aadmi Party will raise the issue and demand strict action against the officials involved in the case. He said that all the officials, politicians, and civilians whose names cropped up during the investigation in the drug smuggling case should be exposed. Giaspura said that such officials should be relieved from their duties so that they could not hinder the probe. “Such tainted and corrupt officials should be replaced with honest and hard-working officials at the posts of public dealing, the officials who are not given importance and are neglected. Even the Honorable High Court had stated that such tainted officials at the post of public dealing are a shameful thing for the state,” he added. Further taking a dig at Captain Amarinder on the issue of the drug trade, Giaspura said that before the elections, Captain had promised that he would eradicate the drug mafia of the state in four weeks; but it has been four years now, and all the mafias still run wild and free; thus exposing the real face of Captain Amarinder. He said that mafia rule was rampant in the state and Captain has reneged on its promises thus betraying the people of Punjab.
