Car hits bike on Airport road, 2 died, 1 injured

Two persons died while one got seriously injured after their motorcycle was hit by a speeding car on Airport road here on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.
The deceased have been identified as Neeraj (21), a resident of the Dadumajra colony in Sector 38-West, Chandigarh, and his cousin brother, Krishan Kumar (22), a resident of Kaithal in Haryana. The injured person has been identified as Ravinder Pal (23), also a resident of Dadumajra colony in Sector 38-West, Chandigarh. Neeraj and Ravinder Pal were working as DJ operators in a Chandigarh-based club, while Krishan Kumar arrived here a few days ago to visit his cousin brother, Ravinder Pal.

According to the police, the incident took place around 1.15 am when the trio of youth was returning to their house after having dinner from Garam Dharam, a restaurant on the Airport road here amid rain. In the meantime, a speeding Volkswagen Polo hit the motorcycle from the rear following which the trio fell down and sustained severe injuries. ASI Dilbagh Singh, the investigation officer, said, “The car driver fled from the spot leaving behind his vehicle. The trio was shifted to the hospitals. Neeraj died on the spot, Krishan Kumar succumbed to his injuries in Fortis hospital a few minutes after he was admitted while Ravinder Pal is battling for his life in GMSH, Sector 16, Chandigarh as his leg got fractured. The vehicle was impounded and the car driver would be arrested soon. The post mortem of the deceased would be conducted on Tuesday.”

A case has been registered today against the unidentified car driver under Sections 279, 304-A, 338, and 427 of the IPC at the Balongi police station.
