CGC Landran pays rich tribute to Kargil Martyrs

Nabaz-e-Punjab Bureau, Chandigarh, July 29:
Commemorating the memory of bravehearts of the Kargil war, Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC) Landran today organised an event to celebrate the 18th anniversary of the Kargil Vijay Diwas. The event which saw strong participation from the students of CGC was attended by distinguished guests comprising Mr Vishal Batra, brother of Kargil War Hero Captain Vikram Batra (PVC), Brig (Retd) MPS Bajwa (YSM) and Kargil war veteran, Brig (Retd) Sukhdev Singh and Mr. Mandeep Singh Bajwa (Defence Analyst & Military Historian). It served as a great platform for students to interact with the invited speakers who enthralled and inspired them with their glorious narratives of grit, guts and glory of the Kargil War besides mentoring them on how to make a career in the armed forces.
The ceremony commenced with the honourable guests lighting the lamp followed by observance of a minute of silence by the gathered audience, in memory of the country’s valiant war heroes. This was followed by CGC’s Firdousa Band paying a riveting homage to the martyrs through a rendition of soul stirring patriotic songs. Post this performance, the gathering was addressed by Mr Vishal Batra, who spoke about fond memories of his brother martyred Captain Vikram Batra, Sher Shah of Kargil war. Extolling the leadership qualities of his brother, he urged the students to inculcate in themselves key qualities which would make them a leader par excellence. These included developing competence in their field of study, building courage and confidence, strengthening their communication skills, consistency and integrity. Addressing the students next were Brig (Retd) Sukhdev Singh and Mr. Mandeep Singh Bajwa. The last speaker of the occasion, Brig (Retd) MPS Bajwa enthralled the attendees with a highly-charged and great narration of the Kargil war through a detailed presentation. His address was interspersed with tales of sheer courage and bravery of our armed forces that led India to victory. The event concluded with the invited dignitaries inaugurating CGC’s student clubs created to cultivate students’ skills in arts, culture and music.
Mr Satnam Singh Sandhu, Chairman, CGC Landran said, “We are honoured to have such luminaries amongst us on this important occasion and hope that their words will inspire CGC students to rise to their best possible selves and become visionary leaders of tomorrow.”
Mr Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President CGC commented, “Kargil Vijay Divas reminds us of the sacrifices made by our valiant defence personnel. This event is our way of remembering their exemplary courage and determination which is worth emulation by our young people.”
