To enhance the beauty of this city and provide basic amenities to the citizens, Rs. 86.37 crore would be spent on the development works of the city” said Balbir Singh Sidhu, Health and Family Welfare and Labor Minister, while addressing a press meet at Municipal Corporation Bhawan. Sidhu handed over a check of Rs 25 crore received from GMADA for the Municipal Corporation to Commissioner Kamal Kumar Garg. Also present on the occasion were Joint Commissioner Dr Kannu Thind, Chief Engineer Mukesh Garg and Ex MC Kuljit Singh Bedi, Surinder Rajput. Sidhu apprised the Housing and Urban Development Minister Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria Principal Secretary Housing and Urban Development Sarvjit Singh and GMADA Chief Administrator Pradeep Kumar Agarwal, for the allotment of funds by GMADA to the Municipal Corporation for the development works of the city. While talking to the media minister said that Rs. 86.37 crore would be spent on various development works such as development works in various housing societies in city, upgradation of markets, Augmentation and rehabilitation of main sewer line under AMRUT Scheme, 50 open gyms equipments with platform in various parks, Modular Steel number plates, construction of playground for children in different parks, laying of paver blocks, Construction of community centre at phase 3B1, purchase of machinery for water supply and sewerage, bioremediation Dumping Ground and new tree pruning machine up to 60 feet height. Further Sidhu said that Medical College and 500-bed hospital is being set up at a cost of Rs 375 crore in the district. He said that apart from the efforts taken to curb the spread of COVID-19, the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh is working tirelessly to further strengthen the health infrastructure. He termed the Punjab Health and Wellness Centres as a milestone in strengthening the primary health sector of the state and initiative to start such centres would give a major impetus to health services in rural areas. He said that the launch of these centres would reduce the pressure on the secondary and tertiary health centres in the state as people would be screened for major ailments and treated at an early stage. He said that the Punjab government has built 37 maternal and child health care centres in the state in the name of Mai Daulat.
