To effectively deal with the growing threat of dengue, the district administration come up with a comprehensive strategy focusing on micro-management and setting a target for the next seven days specifically for the prevention of the disease, under which multipurpose health workers will now be deployed on dengue prevention duty for the next few days.
This decision has been taken by Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Isha Kalia presiding over a review meeting for the prevention of Dengue at the District Administrative Complex.
Emphasizing on the micro management for the prevention of the disease, Mrs. Kalia asked the district administration to completely focus to control dengue for the next seven days. She also received first-hand information from the Health Department and Municipal Committees about the spread of the disease and dengue prevention teams deployed in their areas.
Mrs. Kalia clarified that multipurpose workers would be deployed only on dengue prevention work for the next few days so that fight against the disease will be waged on war footing. “The number of joint teams of health department and municipalities including breeder checkers, health workers and municipal employees should be increased for the early survey of all the houses”, directed the Deputy Commissioner, stressing upon the need to increase fogging in the areas where dengue is spreading. She said that the fogging should be done after 5 PM as the dengue mosquitoes are more active in the evening. She strictly asked officials to challan those owners of the houses or places where larvae were found but at the same time said that it was our priority to protect the people from this disease by making them aware. She also asked to conduct awareness campaigns at Gurdwaras and other places besides distributing the pamphlets door to door.
Mrs. Kalia said that Gambusia fish should be released in ponds or other water logging places or black oil should be added to prevent the breeding of Aedes aegypti mosquito. She appealed to the people not to allow standing water in coolers, tires, pots, broken utensils and clean these regularly. She also urged to wear full body covering clothes and get checked at the nearest health center in case of fever.
The Deputy Commissioner informed that 824 cases of dengue have been reported in the district so far. She called upon the administrative staff to perform their duty with utmost dedication to check the spread of the disease, saying that if slight symptoms were seen, they should be immediately examined at a nearby hospital.
