Fake T20 league: Accused Dandiwal and Durgesh walks out of jail on interim bail

Harshabab Sidhu
Nabaz-e-Punjab, Mohali, July 18:
Ravinder Dandiwal, the kingpin in a fake T20 scandal that surfaced recently, and Durgesh, arrested recently, got interim bail from the local court today.
The duo was produced before a local court in Kharar on Thursday, which sent them to judicial custody in Ludhiana jail.
Dandiwal’ counsel RS Sarao argued before the court of Judicial Magistrate, Ankita Gupta that Dandiwal’s name was not mentioned in the FIR. Secondly, the two prime accused nominated in the FIR were already released on bail. There was no complainant against Dandiwal in the case, said the defence counsel.
RS Sarao also added that no recovery has been made from Dandiwal’s possession.
On the other side, Durgesh’s counsel Harmanjit Singh argued before the court that only high resolution cameras were recovered from Durgesh’s possession and he had no role in organising the fake T20 matches.
Following the arguments of the counsels, the court granted interim bail for six weeks to both the accused. The court has ordered Dandiwal and Durgesh to surrender before the court till August 28.
Dandiwal was in police custody since his arrest on July 6 while Durgesh was arrested by the police from his house in Aterna village in Sonepat, Haryana on July 10.
It is to be noted that the fake T20 tournament, called the UVA T20 League, was held in Sawara village near here but it was claimed that it was being played in Badulla in Sri Lanka. It was telecast live on various websites and social media apps — such as Fancode, Diamond, Sky, Lotus, Tenbet, Spin and Punjab Exchange — for the purpose of earning money through illegal betting.
