Former Congress MLA Jasbir Singh ‘Jassi’ Khangura joins AAP

AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal welcomed him to the party

AAP gives another blow to Congress, many Congress leaders have joined AAP after election code of conduct came into force

Nabaz-e-Punjab Bureau, Chandigarh, February 5:
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has once again dealt a major blow to the Punjab Congress. Following the implementation of the Electoral Code, veteran Punjab Congress leaders continue to leave the Congress and join the Aam Aadmi Party. The Congress suffered a major setback on Saturday when former MLA and senior Congress leader Jasbir Singh ‘Jassi’ Khangura, in the presence of AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal, joined the Aam Aadmi Party. Jasbir Singh ‘Jassi’ Khangura renounced his British citizenship and returned home from the UK and became active in Punjab politics. He won the Qila Raipur seat of Punjab in 2007 by a margin of 10,876 votes. The Qila Raipur seat was previously dominated by Shiromani Akali Dal patron Parkash Singh Badal and was the only seat in Punjab which that Congress had never won. Then in 2012, Jassi contested from Dakha as the Qila Raipur seat was abolished. Jassi lost here, but he got a record 55,820 votes, and no Congress candidate has been able to reach that figure in the next two subsequent elections. Jasbir Singh ‘Jassi’ Khangura has a medical degree from Oxford and he is a businessman in Ludhiana. His wife is the granddaughter of former Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Partap Singh Kairon. After joining the Aam Aadmi Party, Jasbir Singh ‘Jassi’ Khangura said that the people of Punjab were fed up with the Congress. The Congress has now become a party of opportunists and power-hungry people. The poor and common people of Punjab are paying the price for the Congress leaders’ fight for power.
