The court has extended the remand of Chaudhary for three days while both his accomplices were sent to judicial custody in Sangrur jail. Earlier, the trio was on three-day police remand. DSP, counter intelligence wing, Gurcharan Singh said that during interrogation, Baljit Chaudhary admitted that the chartered accountant (CA) Arun Sharma was recently killed in Kharar by a member of his gang. However, the accused said that he did not shoot the CA but fired in the air. He was killed by an iron rod in his head. A case was registered against gangster Baljit Chaudhary and his accomplices Bhavjit Singh Sunny, Akashdeep Pannu, Aman Bhagomajra and Harjinder Sahota at Kharar City Police Station on the statements of Devan, son of the deceased CA. The accused also demanded a ransom of Rs 5 lakh from the CA. The gangster also confessed before the police that some of his weapons were hidden inside the houses of their Kolkata based friends, said the police. Chaudhary was arrested by the cops from Sirhind-Delhi highway, when he was going on his vehicle, after setting up a blockade. A .32 revolver along with 15 cartridges were recovered from Chaudhary. He was going to visit Pamma and Vikas in Rajpura for picking up the ammunition from them. After that, he had a plan to go Delhi. Following his arrest, Gurpreet Singh alias Pamma, a resident of Mastgarh village in Mohali and Vikas Kumar, a resident of Dadumajra, Sector 38-West in Chandigarh, were also arrested from Rajpura-Delhi highway. One .32 revolver along with five cartridges were recovered from them. According to the police, Chaudhary was wanted in more than 16 criminal cases including murder, attempt to murder and dacoity. In the past, he has been an active leader of the student organization PUSU. Chaudhary was involved in several crimes, thak took place in Tricity in the recent past including murder of a chartered accountant, Arun Sharma in Kharar, firing in GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh and rape of a model in Sector 11, Chandigarh. A new case was registered against the suspects under Sections 25-54-59 of the Arms Act at the SSOC Police Station in Phase 1 here.
