Multani case: Hearing on cancellation of FIR against Saini adjourns

Harshabab Sidhu
Nabaz-e-Punjab, Mohali, October 5:
The hearing in the case of dismissal of the FIR against former DGP, Sumedh Saini has been adjourned. Saini has filed a petition in the Supreme Court through his lawyers seeking early dismissal of the criminal case registered against him at the Mataur police station. Today, the Supreme Court judge adjourned the case till October 9.
Former DGP Sumedh Saini has filed a petition in the Supreme Court alleging that the criminal case registered against him at the Mataur police station after 29 years was purely politically motivated. Earlier, the CBI had also registered a criminal case on the basis of a false complaint lodged by the victim’s family and the orders of the High Court, but the CBI could not present any concrete evidence against him. Due to which the Supreme Court had quashed the FIR registered against him by the National Investigation Agency but now after a long time the Mohali Police has registered a case against him on old charges, he said in his petition.
He demanded that the case against him be dismissed from the outset. Earlier, Saini had knocked on the door of the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking dismissal of the case but the High Court had dealt a major blow to him and rejected his appeal outright. Saini has now approached the Supreme Court for relief.
