Jakhar to formally take over as PPCC president on Wednesday

CM, Asha Kumari, Harish Chaudhary to attend ceremony

Nabaz-e-Punjab Bureau, Chandigarh, May 8:
Veteran Punjab Congress leader Sunil Jakhar will formally take over as president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) on Wednesday morning.
Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh will be among those attending the event, scheduled for 10.30 a.m. at the Congress Bhawan here, according to a party spokesperson. AICC in-charge of Punjab Asha Kumari and co-incharge Harish Chaudhary will also be present on the occasion.
All Congress MLAs and district presidents have also been invited to the ceremony, said the spokesperson.
A former Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader and a three-time ex-MLA from Abohar – a seat he won for three consecutive terms, Jakhar replaces Captain Amarinder Singh as the PPCC chief. Captain Amarinder, who led the party to a resounding victory in the recent assembly polls, had resigned from the post during a meeting with AICC vice president on April 12.
Sixty-three-year-old Jakhar has been actively raising issues of farmer interest in the state. He has been hand-picked by the party high command to steer the restructuring of the Punjab Congress for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
