Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh will be among those attending the event, scheduled for 10.30 a.m. at the Congress Bhawan here, according to a party spokesperson. AICC in-charge of Punjab Asha Kumari and co-incharge Harish Chaudhary will also be present on the occasion. All Congress MLAs and district presidents have also been invited to the ceremony, said the spokesperson. A former Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader and a three-time ex-MLA from Abohar – a seat he won for three consecutive terms, Jakhar replaces Captain Amarinder Singh as the PPCC chief. Captain Amarinder, who led the party to a resounding victory in the recent assembly polls, had resigned from the post during a meeting with AICC vice president on April 12. Sixty-three-year-old Jakhar has been actively raising issues of farmer interest in the state. He has been hand-picked by the party high command to steer the restructuring of the Punjab Congress for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
