Kharar police seized 500 boxes of smuggled liquor

Nabaz-e-Punjab Bureau, Mohali, August 14:
A day before the Independence Day, the district police today seized 500 boxes of Chandigarh made smuggled liquor, which was being carried in a truck laden with rice sack bags.
The driver of the truck, identified as Ranjit Singh Yadav (27), a resident of Haryana, was arrested by the police on the spot.
Kharar DSP Pal Singh said, “In view of the independence day occasion, a blockade was set up by the Kharar police near Sunny Enclave and each vehicle was being thoroughly checked by the police teams. Meanwhile, the truck (bearing Haryana registration number), coming from Chandigarh side, was intercepted and on checking, 500 boxes of Chandigarh made whiskey, hidden inside the rice sack bags, were recovered. It was discovered that 201 boxes were of Imperial Blue whiskey and 299 boxes were of McDowell whiskey.”
As per the police, the accused was all set to supply the liquor in Punjab. The truck was impounded by the police.
A case has been registered against the accused under the relevant Sections of the Excise Act at the City Kharar police station.
