Migrant labourer held for attempt to rape a girl child

Nabaz-e-Punjab, Mohali, July 6:
Balongi police arrested a migrant labourer last night for allegedly tried to rape a two-year-old girl.
The accused has been identified as Shiv Sagar (35), a resident of Azad Nagar in Balogi and hails from Uttar Pradesh. Shiv was working as a labourer here.
As per the complaint given by vicitm’s parents to the police, on July 3, the girl was playing near her house and her mother was working inside the house. Meanwhile, their neighbour, Shiv came there and took the girl with him on the pretext of playing. He took her behind the bushes, near their locality. He tried to rape the girl but before that the victim’s parents reached there by searching the girl. On seeing them, the accused fled from the spot leaving behind the girl.
Yesterday, on getting the complaint, police conducted the raid at Shiv’s house and arrested him.
“The accused had tried to rape the girl but she was saved at the right time. He is said to be mentally unstable and his wife had also left him. Presently, he was living with his cousin brothers here,” said ASI Bahadar Singh, the investigation officer.
A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 376, 511 of the IPC and relevant Sections of the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act at the Balongi police station.
The accused was produced in a local court today which has sent him to four-day police custody.
