After four members of a gang arrested by the Mohali police during a brief encounter at Billa village in Panchkula on April 26, senior police officials of the district now have decided to recommend for the promotion of cops who fought the gangsters with bravery to the Director General of Police.
Superintendent of Police (city) HS Virk said, “We will surely recommend their promotion to Punjab DGP for their bravery and achievement. For issuing them class one certificates, we will ask the IGP.”
A team of 11 cops including Phase 8 Station House Officer, Inspector Rajnish Choudhary, had conducted a raid at Billa village in Panchkula after got a tip-off that the suspects were hiding in a room there. A cop, Head Constable Raspreet Singh had sustained injuries as a bullet hit his left leg during the encounter, which lasts for around half an hour.
During the encounter, when Raspreet Singh tried to run towards the gangster to nab him, he (gangster) opened fire at him which hit the cop’s leg as he managed to jump. Despite facing bullet, Raspreet Singh was able to nab the gangster by chasing him.
“It was not an easy task to nab all the suspects as they were the gangsters and were firing the bullets fearlessly on our team. Among the four, I had nabbed the prime suspect, identified as Simu of Ambala district. Initially, we had thought there were only two suspects there but on reaching the spot we were surprised to see four suspects carrying weapons. It was all our team work that helped to pass the mission,” said Raspreet Singh.
