Nabaz-e-Punjab Bureau, Patiala/Chandigarh , 30th April: The Chamar Mahan Sabha today organised a meeting to discuss the various issues plaguing the Schduled Castes community at Shri Guru Ravidass Ji Harimandir Sahib, Patiala. President of the Sabha, Paramjit Singh Kainth said “Punjab and Centre government has completely failed in protecting and safeguarding the rights for the Scheduled Castes community. Vacancy for the post of Chairperson in the National Scheduled Castes Commission since last year is one prime example of how the government is ignoring the community.” He alleged that this was a conspiracy and blunt ignorance for protecting the SC rights and development. He condemned this ignorance and to rectify it, the Chamar Mahan Sabha and its brotherly organisations will hand over a memorandum to the Prime Minister Modi through the District DC in all Districts of the State. Kainth also told that “Government has been unable to provide assurance to allocate 1/3rd shamlat land for the scheduled caste community. The allotment process is not helpful for the community and has many loopholes.” He also appreciated and supported the efforts of “Zameen Prapti” movement in Sangrur. He further told about the Rs 270 crore yet to be released for the Post Matric Scholarship for the Scheduled Castes, Backward and Minority communities. In relation with the Scholarship, he further alleged that the government is playing foul with the future of young students and ruining their bright futures, he questioned the Ministers who just voiced their concerns in the newspapers and have not done anything concrete for the community. He asked for an investigation into the misuse of these funds. Many other urgent issues were also discussed in the meeting. 25% reservation to various castes and communities is guranteed in the Right to Education act but it is also not implemented properly in the private schools. A group of the Sabha and other like-minded organisations will plan to meet the Education Minister to discuss this issue. The grim condition of the Public schools and the amenities provided in it by the government were insufficient and it is not making any efforts to improve the same. Private schools are openly commercializing the education sector. Government schools are failing increasingly as opposed to the profitable business run by the Private schools. Other Organisations and leaders present in the meeting were Laxman Das Jati (Dalit Council of India), Raj Singh Todarwal (Jabar Juram Virodhi Front), Gurdeep Lambardar (Savidhan Bachao Morcha), Bhim Singh Kotli (MNREGA Cell), Manmohan Singh Hassanpur (Mission Insaaf),,Jarnail Singh Swajpur and other leaders.
