Notification for Gurdaspur Parliamentary Constituency bye election issued

The nomination process for Gurdaspur Parliamentary Constituency bye election begun today with the notification issued. No one filed nomination paper on day one.
Disclosing this here today a Spokesperson of Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab said that with the issuance of notification regarding Gurdaspur Parliamentary Constituency bye election on September 15, 2017 Friday the nomination process started. Nomination papers are to be filed with the concerned Returning Officer between the hours of 11 O’ Clock in the forenoon and 3 O’ clock in the after noon.
Disclosing this here a spokesperson of office of Chief electoral officer Punjab said last date of submission of nomination Papers will be September 22, 2017 Friday and scrutiny of papers will be done on September 25,2017 Monday and last for the withdrawal of candidature is September 27, 2017 Wednesday .. On October 11, 2017 Wednesday polling will be held form 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. and counting of votes will be on October 15, 2017 Sunday.
He further said that 16th September, 2017 being a Saturday is not a holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881; therefore, nomination papers can be presented to the Returning Officer on that day. and also 17th September, 2017 being a Sunday is a holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881; therefore, nomination papers cannot be presented to the Returning Officer on that day.
Like wise 21st September, 2017 being a Agarsain Jayanti is not a holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881; therefore, nomination papers can be presented to the Returning Officer on that day.
“The nomination papers are to be filled in form 2A for 01-Gurdaspur Parliamentary Constituency bye-Election. Blank forms are available with the District Election Officer/Returning Officer. Typed nomination paper will also be accepted provided they are in the prescribed form.” He said.
Spokesperson said In order to qualify for a Parliamentary Constituency (Lok Sabha) seat, a candidate should be registered as an elector for any Parliamentary Constituency. To satisfy the concerned Returning Officer on this point, candidates should produce a certified copy of the relevant entry of the electoral roll in force.
A certificate is also required to make and subscribe to an oath or affirmation in the prescribed form before the concerned Returning Officer or any other person so authorized by the Election Commission of India. The oath/affirmation should taken / made by a candidate after his nomination paper has been filed and before the date fixed for the Scrutiny of nominations.
The Model Code of Conduct has come into force in the District Gurdaspur and Pathankot from the date of announcement of elections i.e. 12th September, 2017 by the Election Commission of India and shall remain in force till the completion of the election process.
