The District Sessions Judge RS Rai, IGP Amit Prasad, DC Girish Dayalan and SSP Satinder Singh along with other police personnel paid homage to martyrs of police forces who laid down their lives in the line of Duty . “The police are responsible for the internal security of the country. Police personnel, in the line of duty, sacrifice their lives for the sake of the country. Tributes are paid to commemorate their martyrdom. In the past one year, 264 police personnel sacrificed their lives in India. I salute the martyrs who have sacrificed their lives for the country. The nation shall forever remain indebted to these heroes.” said IGP Amit Prasad while addressing on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day. Prasad said that the country is currently fighting a dual battle. The enemies of one battle are visible, the other is fighting with Covid-19. In this battle the enemy is not visible nor does one know when and where it will come from but “we will win this battle by fighting on the front line”, asserted IGP. He lauded the courage of the police personnel and said that when curfew was imposed due to Covid-19 and no one was allowed to go out; the police plunged into the fight head-on, regardless of their health or that of their families. They ensured curfew compliance in the best interest of the public. While performing such frontline duties, 39 policemen and security personnel of the State lost their lives to COVID-19. On this occasion SSP Satinder Singh said we should work diligently to fulfill our duty, irrespective of consequences. Remembering our martyrs, on this day we should once again rededicate ourselves to protect the security and safety of the people of our country, said he. On this day, let us also resolve never to forget our brave heroes, who have laid down their lives at the altar of duty, and also to look after the families of these police martyrs. Earlier, the silence was observed for two minutes in the memory of the martyrs. The names of the martyrs were read out by SP Akashdeep Singh Aulakh. On this occasion, SP (Investigation) Harmandeep Singh Hans IPS, SP (rural) Ravjot Grewal IPS, SP Sartaj Singh Chahal IPS, SP (Traffic) Kesar Singh, SP (City) Harvinder Virk along with DSPs, inspectors and other police personnel paid homage by laying the wreaths Pertinently, the history of the Police Commemoration Day dates back to 21st October 1959, when a patrol party of the CRPF led by Sub Inspector Karam Singh, was ambushed by the Chinese forces at Hot Springs, Ladakh and 10 jawans achieved martyrdom.
