OCCU and local police nabs five gangsters from Kharar during the encounter

The organised crime control unit (OCCU) of Punjab police headed by AIG Gurmeet Singh Chauhan in a joint operation with Mohali and Jagraon police today arrested five gangsters during a brief encounter at Aman Homes, Kharar here. The police also recovered six weapons including 9mm pistol, .30 revolver and countrymade pistols,along with few cartridges from the possession of the gangsters.
The arrested gangsters have been identified as Navdeep Singh Navi alias John, Kulwinder Singh, Parminder Singh alias Pinda, all residents of Buttar Kalan village in Moga, Amritpal Singh, Amrik Singh, both residents of Samrala in Ludhiana.
During the encounter, Johan Buttar, got injured as two bullets hit on his legs by the cops during the shootout.
The incident took place around 3 pm today when the team of cops reached the society (Aman Homes) following a tip-off about the hideout of the gangsters.
As per the information obtained from AIG Gurmeet Singh Chauhan, when cops reached the flat, where the gangsters were hiding, they found the gate was locked. When police tried to enter inside the flat by breaking open the gate, the gangsters allegedly started firing on them.
Mohali Superintendent of Police (investigation) Harmandeep Hans, who was also present with the team, said, “On seeing the cops, the gangsters opened four to five rounds of fire. The police also fired two shots in defence, which hit the knees of Johan. He was admitted to Civil Hospital in Kharar. We learnt that the gangster, Johan was declared PO (Proclaimed Offender) in a case registered in 2012 against him. Further investigation is on.”
As per the information, the injured ganster was later shifted to PGI, Chandigarh for his treatment. DSP Bikramjit Singh Brar informed that the encounter lasted for over five minutes in which around 10 gun shots were fired.
The gangster, Johan was the main accused in a firing incident at Buttar Kalan village in the recent past, said the police.
As per the police, the gangsters had taken the rented flat in Aman Homes ten
days ago through a broker, named Mani. The gangsters were brought to the broker by a girl named Priyanka, who also works as a broker. The owner of the flat, Harcharan Singh did not completed police verification before renting out flat to the gangsters. Mani said he has been asking the tenants for the last few days for photos to be affixed on the police verification form but so far he has not got their photos. However, the police verification forms of the tenants were filled. Police will also include broker Mani and Priyanka in the probe. The arrested gangsters will be produced in a local court tomorrow for seeking their police remand.
