Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Google+ Share on Pinterest Share on Linkedin PUNJAB CM DIRECTS MEGA CAMPS FOR MGSVY IMPLEMENTATION EVERY MONTH AFTER HUGE SUCCESS OF OCT 2 CAMPS Nabaz-e-Punjab Bureau, Chandigarh, October 4: Encouraged by the success of the mega camps held on Gandhi Jayanti, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has directed that such camps be held every month, to enable the Mahatma Gandhi Sarbat Vikas Yojna (MGSVY) to reach out to the maximum number of beneficiaries. A total of 1.22 lakh beneficiaries were assisted on October 2, which saw 2.36 lakh beneficiaries visiting the mega camps organised by the state government. With these, a total of 7,55,268 beneficiaries have been assisted under the scheme, which was launched last year. The initiative was highly appreciated during the Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, with Captain Amarinder Singh lauding the programme implementation as an important step in enabling the welfare of the downtrodden sections of the society. The Chief Minister issued the necessary directives for regular conduct of such camps. An official spokesperson said the Chief Minister has asked the ministers in charge of the districts to hold such camps every month in collaboration with the district administration. Giving details of the success of the October 2 camps, the spokesperson said of the total applications received under the scheme, 62% related to the top 10 heads, and 81% of the total beneficiaries assisted in the camps also belonged to these heads. While the total number of applications received in these heads stood at 2,36,920 the total beneficiaries assisted for these 10 programmes were 1,22,478. While 24,155 beneficiaries were assisted for Pension (Old Age/Widow/Handicap/Dependent Child), 17,279 were helped under SBM IHHL Toilet programme, 14,323 under MGNREGA, 12,572 under Drinking Water Connection, 9903 under miscellaneous activities which were applied for by people in the camps, 6515 in Ujala LED programme and 4403 for Free Electricity Units. As many as 4041 beneficiaries were assisted under Ghar Ghar Rojgar, 3202 under Attal Dal Scheme and 3096 under Ujjwala Yojna, said the spokesperson. The 90 mega camps were held across the state, at sub-divisional levels, on Oct 2 in order to ensure that no deserving beneficiary is deprived of the benefits of the welfare schemes initiated by the government under the MGSVY. The eligibility criteria for coverage under the scheme is that the beneficiary should have an annual income less than Rs 60,000 or have less than 2.5 acres of land.
