Punjab Govt. launches Ghar Ghar Rozgar and Karobaar Mission at Employers Meet

Signs 34 MOUs with various Industry Associations and Employers, to create job opportunities for 2.36 lac youth

Unveils the approach and strategy framework for Ghar Ghar Rozgar and Karobaar Mission

The Punjab Government today launched Ghar Ghar Rozgar and Karobaar Mission during the Employers Meet held here at Indian School of Business in the presence of Finance and Employment Generation Minister Mr. Manpreet Singh Badal, Technical Education Minister Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi, Local Bodies Minister Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu, and Irrigation and Power Minister Rana Gurjit Singh.
On this Occasion, the Punjab Government also signed 34 MOUs with various Industry Associations and Employers, which will create job opportunities for about 2.36 lac youth in the State.
The Employers Meet witnessed enthusiastic participation from leading industry experts including Ms. Isher Judge Ahluwalia, Chairperson, India Council for Research on International Economics, Mr. Krish Iyer, India CEO, Walmart, Mr. Shri Paul Oswal, Chairman, Vardhman Textiles Ltd., Mr. A.S. Mittal, Vice Chairman, International Tractors Limited (Sonalika Group), Mr. Rajinder Gupta, Chairman, Trident and Mr. Sarvjit Samra, Founder & Managing Director, Capital Small Finance Bank among other eminent industry experts and leaders.

Addressing the meet, Mr. Manpreet Singh Badal assured the industrialists that Punjab Government would extend fulsome support for their existing as well as their new ventures they are planning to establish in the state with the view to create numerous job opportunities for our youth. “We will not let the youth of our state to shift to foreign countries in the search of employment. Captain Amarinder Singh led Punjab Government is fully committed to provide job the youth in every household as per their skill”, he added.
Urging the employers to join hands with Ghar Ghar Rozgar Mission to accelerate Punjab’s development and contribute as a driving force for the employment growth, Mr. Manpreet Badal described unemployment and corruption as the biggest obstacles in the development and prosperity of a region. “We all must work collectively to boost the economy of the state besides ensuring the constructive growth of our human resources”, added Mr. Badal.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi announced that the Government would set up a university of Vocational Education. The University will particularly try and bridge the gap between academic qualifications and vocational education and on the other hand between the industry and academia. He said that the Punjab government has successfully completed the goal of providing employment to about 50,000 youths by organizing employment fairs at 21 different places across the state. Mr. Channi called upon the industrialists to work in tandem with Punjab government for the advancement of technical education besides ensuring golden fortune for our youth.

Speaking on the theme of ‘Lessons for Punjab from successful economies to meet the challenges of unemployment’, Ms. Isher Judge Ahluwalia suggested the public-private partnership in infrastructure building as a key to create investment friendly environment in the state.

Dr. PJ Singh, Managing director, Tynor Orthotics expressed his views on the theme ‘MSMEs as a growth engine for employment’. He stressed on the need to promote e-commerce and e-education to boost the economy and employment generation.

Mr. Sandeep Jain, executive director, Monte Carlo stressed on the need of promotion of homegrown brands and shortage of skilled labour while expressing his views on ‘Creating brands for regional and global supplies from within the state’.
Mr. Krish Iyer, President and CEO, Walmart India projected Punjab’s consumption capacity as an immense scope for growth. He pressed Punjab government to bring a retail policy while speaking on the theme of ‘Attracting global retailers to Punjab – and retail jobs’.
Mr. A.S. Mittal, Vice Chairman, Sonalika International Tractor Limited expressed his views on ‘Role of Large Units to develop ancillary units and facilitate job’ and Mr. Jatinder Jain, Managing Director, Kochar Infotech Pvt Ltd answered the question raised under theme ‘Can Punjab tap the IT and ITeS industry’. Mr. Sarvjit Singh Samra, founder and Managing Director, Capital Small Finance Bank throw light on the opportunities for Punjabi youth in Banking and Financial services.

Expressing his views on ‘Food processing industries – unlocking the great potential’, Mr. Bhavdeep Sardana, Senior Vice President & CEO, Sukhjit Starch & Chemicals Limited, suggested Punjab government to set up clusters of specific industry besides ensuring backward and forward linkages for the food processing industry and encouraging contract farming.
Later, Mr. Manpreet Singh Badal and Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi unveiled the approach and strategy framework for Ghar Ghar Rozgar and Karobaar Mission, which lays emphasis on synergizing skills, employment and enterprise development to achieve the mission objectives. It is pertinent to mention here that Punjab Government will set up District Bureau of Employment and Enterprise, which will extend all the necessary assistance to youth in finding jobs or setting up own enterprise. Each district will prepare its own roadmap and Employment Bureaus at Mohali, Ludhiana and Jalandhar will facilitate and set up three Model Career Centers in partnership with CII.
Prominent amongst others present on this occasion includes Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu, Mr. Gurpreet Singh GP, both MLAs, former minister Mr. Arun Shekhri and senior officials of Industry and other government departments were present on the occasion.
