Punjab Police cracked the whip on persons booked under Cow Slaughter Act

Police committed to make Punjab a safe state

Nabaz-e-Punjab Bureau, CHANDIGARH, June 18:
Amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per the vision of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Punjab Police on Sunday conducted statewide raids at premises of persons, who booked under the cow slaughter act in the past few years. The raids were carried out on the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav. Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla said that the operation was conducted across the state in a synchronised manner from 9am to 4pm. All the CPs/SSPs were asked to depute teams under Inspectors/Sub-Inspectors (SIs) to raid premises and verify the present status of persons involved in cow slaughtering cases. As many as 132 Police teams, involving 900 police personnel, have raided 185 premises of persons against whom cases under the cow slaughter act have been registered. According to the information, Punjab Police had registered as many as 319 FIRs under the cow slaughter act in the state since 2016.

The Special DGP said that the intent to carry out this operation was to keep tabs on violators to ensure that they are not indulged in these anti-social activities. Such raids would continue further, he added.

He assured that the police won’t spare any one whosoever found indulged in illegal activity of killing/slaughtering of cows as the force is committed to protect and preserve the cattle as per the law.

Meanwhile, such operations also help in infusing fear among anti-social elements and instilling a sense of security among common people.
