Punjab Police successfully controls law and order situation after Punchkula court verdict on Sirsa dera head

Curfew imposed in six districts, Malout and Abohar sub-divisions

(50 minor incidents in 9 districts, no loss of life or firing incident occurred

DGP monitoring situation round the clock through joint Police control room

The Punjab has today witnessed about 50 minor incidents in 9 districts of Malwa region after the Punchkula court verdict in a case related to Sirsa dera head but no loss of life or firing incident occurred in the state. To effectively control the situation, the District Magistrates has imposed curfew in six districts i.e. Patiala, Sangrur, Ferozepur, Mansa, Faridkot, Bathinda and two sub-divisions Malout in Sri Muktsar Sahib and Abohar in Fazilka district. No incident was reported from 13 districts.

Disclosing this here today, a Spokesperson of the Punjab Police said Director General of Police, Punjab, Mr Suresh Arora has been closely monitoring the law and order situation from Joint Police Control Room of Punjab, Haryana and Indian Army set up at Punjab Police Headquarters. Mr Hardeep Singh Dhillon DGP law and order is also in liaison with all district police chiefs to control and diffuse the prevalent situation in the state. Besides, more administrative measures by the civil as well as police authorities have also been under taken.
Mr Arora has also directed all the district police chiefs and other senior officers to be vigilant round the clock and during night also so that no untoward incident may occur in the state. He also appealed to the public as well as dera followers to maintain peace and law & order.
Giving details of various attempts made to damage the state and private properties, the Spokesperson said sixrailway stations ; three in Bathinda, one in Ferozepur and two in Sri Muktsar Sahib district, seven power stations ; two in Mansa, Sangrur, one each in Bathinda and Sri Muktsar Sahib and two in Faridkot district, nine Seva Kendras ; four in Bathinda, two in Mansa, two in Barnala and one in Faridkot, five telephone exchanges ; one each in Bathinda, Sangrur and Barnala, two in Sri Muktsar Sahib, seven petrol pumps ; two in Mansa, four in Sri Muktsar Sahib and one in Faridkot, Five mobile towers ; one each in Mansa, Ferozepur, Barnala and two in Bathinda. He further said that one Tehsil Office in Sangrur, two co-operative societies at Bathinda and Sangrur, smashing of window panes of Income Tax Office in Mansa were also attempted by unknown dera followers. Besides this, two incidents of road blockades have also been reported from Dirba and Khanauri, both in Sangrur district.

He added that there was a minor incident of an attempt to set furniture on fire in a Government School in village Manakpur in Patiala district. Some dera followers hit a Police vehicle at Dirba in district Sangrur but they were later arrested. He informed that the arson incidents were controlled immediately and no major damages have been reported.
The spokesperson further said Police patrolling has been intensified all over the State especially on highways and major roads. To supervise the security measures in the affected areas 11 senior police officers including one ADGP, four IGPs, there DIGs and three Commandants have been deputed over the next 24 hours.
