Punjab Pollution Control Board initiative for Eco Friendly Carry Bags in SAS Nagar

To minimize the use of plastic bags, Punjab Pollution Control Board has introduced environmental friendly compostable carry bags in Mohali. Er. Lavneet Dubey, Environmental Engineer, SAS Nagar told that these carry bags get decompose in the soil within the period of 3-4 months. Earlier, there was no alternative material available for the replacement of plastic carry bags. Now, raw material made of starch derived from corns and potatoes has been developed for manufacturing eco friendly compostable carry bags.
Central Pollution Control Board, New Delhi has allowed four companies to import raw material of starch granules and manufacture compostable carry bags. In first phase, compostable carry bags have been introduced by Sh.Kahan Singh Pannu, IAS, Chairman, Punjab Pollution Control Board with the support of Hon’ble SGPC at Golden Temple, Sri Amritsar Sahib and efforts are being made to introduce these bags in all major cities including Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Patiala by 5th June, 2018.
Er. Lavneet Dubey, Environmental Engineer alongwith Er.Vijay Kumar, Assistant Environmental Engineer and Er. Kanwaldeep Kaur, Assistant Environmental Engineer has taken a meeting with main plastic dealer in Mohali M/s New Friends Industry, Phase-9, Indl. Area, Distt. SAS Nagar, who is currently supplying the material to major local hospitals in SAS Nagar with the dealer of compostable bags M/s H.P. Green Solutions, representative Sh. Pardeep Mittal.
During meeting main consumers of carry bags in Mohali i.e. Guru Nanak Sweets, Sindhi Sweets, Katani Sweets and Amrit Bakery were present and they were encouraged to use these eco friendly carry bags. Compostable carry bag dealer Sh. Pardeep Mittal told that presently they have stock of 2 Ton of ready material and 4 Ton ready material is in transit. The main consumers have been directed to use this compostable bag in Mohali so as to spread the awareness regarding use of these eco friendly compostable carry bags in District SAS Nagar in general public.
