Punjab School Education Board cuts syllabus by 30%: Prof. Yograj

Nabaz-e-Punjab Bureau, S.A.S. Nagar, Nov 10:
Punjab School Education Board has announced 30% reduction of secondary and senior secondary level syllabi for the final examination of academic sessions 2020-21. This decision is the result of the absence of conventional schooling in the wake of Covid-19.
The Education Board Chairman Prof (Dr.) Yograj announcing the decision here, after a meeting with the academic section of the Board, declared that after the reduction of syllabi of various classes and subjects except Punjabi and History, for board finals of session 2020-21, structure of question papers will also undergo a change as necessitated again by absence of school level teaching for months all together. Dr. Yograj ordered the Academic Branch to prepare Model Test papers in tune with the changed structure of question papers and public all the material on the Board website so that the whole material may be available to stake holders at one place.
According to details, Dr. Yograj reviewed the reduction of syllabi of various classes and subjects except Punjabi and History, proposed by board experts and coordinators after the consultation with teachers, lecturers and field experts on Monday. He divulged that board experts had kept an eye over the dissemination of education in the changed socio-academic scenario due to Covid-19 since April and reduction of syllabi is just the first step. He indicated that the reduction process may widen in tune with situation arising and such decisions at national level in future.
Calling for change in the structure of question papers of all board classes and subjects, for board finals of this session the Board chief said that regular and conventional teaching has been missing for the students in the session and that creates a need for changing the pattern of evaluation towards more objectivity and meaningfulness. Naming the steps being taken on the road of facing Covid-19 threat as‘ academic bravery ’, Dr. Yograj said that whatever changes are taking place need to reach all the stakeholders such as students, teachers and parents wide and clear. Therefore Model Test papers and other study material shall be made available at the board website as per need so that academic harm incurred in this academic year may not strike to students of Punjab as hard.
