All India Lawyers Union demands regular hearing of cases in the courts

The All India Lawyers Union and the Indian Association of Lawyers Punjab Unit have written to the Law Minister of the country, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court demanding regular hearing of cases in the courts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh. Orders should be issued immediately to get started the hearings as they were taking place before the pandemic, they demanded. The letter was signed by Tara Singh Chahal, Sarabjit Singh Virk, Darshan Singh Dhaliwal, Amarjit Singh Longia, Jaspal Singh Dapper, Sampuran Singh Thajli, Harchand Bath and Paramjit Singh Khanna.
The letter reads that due to the Corona pandemic, the lockdown in India has long hampered court proceedings and only limited (special) cases are being heard in the courts. Typists, translators and vendors are facing financial crisis due to the current situation, they wrote. They said that the legal community was dependent only on the judicial profession hence most lawyers have no other source of income. Young lawyers in particular are facing this crisis. They have been deprived not only of their income but also of learning the profession of advocacy. The judiciary is an essential and important part of the country that administers justice to its citizens, they demanded.
The letter also reads that as per the directions of the Center and the Punjab government, all the governmental and non-governmental organizations like railways, transporter services, airline industry have started their work keeping in view the necessary precautions but so far the courts have not started its regular work. This has eroded the freedom of the citizens of the country and the criminal legal process is going on at a very slow pace and the common man is facing mistrust. In many cases, many people have been incarcerated for long periods of time. They demanded that regular proceedings of the courts should be initiated on the condition of necessary precaution and precaution.
