Multani case: SC will hear the Saini’s anticipatory bail plea on Tuesday

Harshabab Sidhu
Nabaz-e-Punjab, Mohali, September 14:
The hearing on anticipatory bail plea filed by former DGP Sumedh Saini will take place on Tuesday in the apex court. The accused cop, Sumedh Saini had filed anticipatory bail plea before the court by challenging the judgement of Punjab and Haryana High court on September 7 in connection with the case of mysterious disappearance and abduction of Balwant Multani, a CITCO employee, in 1991.
A three-judge Bench of Justice Ashok Bhushan, Justice R Subhas Reddy and Justice MR Shah will hear the case in the court as item number 27.
Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi is likely to appear for Saini who had moved an anticipatory bail petition in the Supreme Court last week to avoid his imminent arrest. Cops have been conducting raids at various residences of Saini to arrest him, but to no avail.
Now if the supreme court will also reject his bail plea, then Saini have to surrender himself in the court for his arrest.
Earlier, the apex court had returned the file due to several deficiencies in Saini’s bail application. The former DGP had filed an application in the Supreme Court through his lawyers challenging the decision of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The affidavit attached to the anticipatory bail application of the former police officer has not been attested by any competent authority. Apart from this, there were several other shortcomings in the petition.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government has already filed a caveat file in the Supreme Court.
