Scholarship scam: Youth Akali Dal protests in front of DC office, burns Dharamsot effigy

The alleged scam in the Post Matric Scholarship Scheme for Dalit children in Punjab has been politicized. Youth Akali Dal District Mohali (Urban) President Parvinder Singh Baidwan led a massive protest outside the Deputy Commissioner office in Sector-76 here on Wednesday.
The protesters burnt the effigy of Cabinet Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot and chanted slogans against the rulers. Youth Akali Dal National President Bunty Romana also joined the dharna. Describing the Punjab government as a government of scams, he said that people of all sections of the state were unhappy with the current government. He demanded that the scholarship scheme be investigated by the CBI. He said the Chief Minister was still sitting in the forest. More than 150 deaths have been reported so far due to spurious liquor in the Majha region. He said after the formation of Akali Dal government in Punjab, Dharamsot and other tainted ministers would be sent to jails.
Parvinder Singh Baidwan, District Urban President, Youth Wing and Manjit Singh Malikpur, Rural President, Youth Wing said that an impartial inquiry into the matter could not be expected from the Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh as the Chief Minister himself was afraid of discrediting the government. That is why the government has handed over the probe into the scholarship scheme scam to the Chief Secretary instead of handing it over to a national investigating agency. The protesters demanded the alleged minister Dharamsot should be immediately removed from the Punjab cabinet and an impartial inquiry should be held as there could be no impartial inquiry into the matter while he was in the ministry. He also demanded that the Minister be taken into custody and questioned so that the truth could come out.
Spokespersons said that the government was cheating millions of Dalit students. He said that the Akali Dal would soon launch a mass agitation to protect the interests of the people of Punjab especially the Dalits and against the corrupt regime and the struggle would continue till justice was served to the victims.
Youth Wing Core Committee Member Satinder Singh Gill, Ex MC Gurmukh Singh, Manjit Singh Malakpur, Avtar Singh Mouli, Capt Ramandeep Singh Bawa, Harjinder Singh Balongi, Numberdar Harvinder Singh & Karamjit Singh, Karanbir Poonia, Taranbir Singh and Manpreet Singh Virk were also present during the protest.
