Security guard, the teacher, now providing food to migrant families of Mohali

Nabaz-e-Punjab, Mohali, June 21:
The 63-year-old security guard of a private company, who was running free classes for children of migrant labourers in the Industrial Area, Phase 8, here, is still serving these families since the lockdown was imposed in the district. Nirmal Singh, a resident of Dhangrali village in Ropar, is now distributing food and ration items to the families of migrant labourers, who got stuck after the lockdown and are unemployed due to no ongoing construction.
Nirmal Singh said that he has distributed essential food and ration items to the migrant families with the help of an NRI of Canada, Surinder Ahluwali, who is helping him since he came to know about his social service.
He said, “Since lockdown, I am getting only Rs 7,000 as my salary. But I always wanted to help poor families. Now with the support of an NRI person, I am able to fulfill some basic needs of poor families. Recently my students planted around 65 trees for the environment on my instructions” while adding that “God helps those who help the poor”.
Surinder Ahluwalia, an NRI from Ontario state in Canada, said, “The way he is handling the families of poor children is exceptional. I am very impressed with his dedication and selfless work ethics. Nirmal Singh should be given encouragement and recognition that he deserves, and it might prompt some other people to come up with additional help in this cause.”
He added, “I have been in touch with Nirmal Singh, and have provided him with some meagre help with his cause. This was made possible by an article in the paper.” He also demanded that the state government should provide a proper space in a nearby building of Nirmal Singh’s workplace so that he can help the maximum number of needy children while managing his task of security guard.
Nirmal Singh claimed that he has educated 185 children of migrants so far. He is looking to start a fresh batch after the pandemic is over.
