Senior Vets association urges Punjab CM to accept genuine demands of doctors

Govt should Shun anti‐employee policies ‐Dr Walia

Senior Vets Association, a body of retired veterinarians has also rallied around the government Veterinary, Medical, dental, Ayurvedic, and homeopathic doctors who are up in arms against the stepmotherly treatment meted out to them by the implementation of the 6th Punjab Pay Commission report for the past many days. At a meeting of the body held here today, Dr. Gurinder Singh Walia, former Joint Director Animal Husbandry Punjab and member of Punjab State Veterinary Council said that it was really unfortunate that Medical and veterinary doctors who were at the forefront during the ongoing pandemic to mitigate the sufferings of the people had been forced to agitate due to the flawed policy of the government. Dr. Walia averred that if the government really wanted to save money, there were other means like allowing only one pension to former MLAs and MPs instead of multiple pensions, reducing unnecessary security of VIPs, and completely taking over of mining, liquor, and transport business by the government. This would not only generate employment but also earn more revenue for infrastructure development, health, and education funding.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Nitin Kumar, former Chief Executive Officer of Punjab Gau Sewa Commission quipped that government employees eagerly wait for the pay commission report expecting a handsome hike in their salaries proportionate to the inflation, but Pay Commission had dealt a big blow to the social and economic status of Vets and medicos by reducing NPA from 25 to 20 percent and it’s delinking from salary. He stressed that NPA had been granted to medicos and Vets keeping in view a long period of study and late entry to service for the past many years. Dr. Bimal Sharma, Principal Government Veterinary Polytechnic, Kaljharani expressed the hope that the Oversight Committee of Ministers constituted to resolve the grievances of employees will do justice.
