Sukhbir Singh Badal congratulates Indian Junior Hockey team on winning World Cup

Chandigarh, December 19:
The Punjab Deputy Chief Minister, S. Sukhbir Singh Badal has congratulated the Indian Men’s Junior Hockey team on winning the much coveted junior world cup. It is important to note that in a keenly contested final held in Lucknow, India beat Belgium by 2-1 to capture the title for the 2nd time.
Congratulating the Indian team for its breathtaking and stupendous performance, the Deputy Chief Minister, who also holds the Sports Portfolio, said that it is a matter of great pride for Punjab that 10 players out of 16 of the winning team belong to Punjab including Captain Harjeet Singh, Harmanpreet Singh, Varun Kumar, Krishan Pathak, Gurinder Singh, Vikramjit Singh, Mandeep Singh, Simranjit Singh, Parvinder Singh and Gurjant Singh. He also said that it is also a pleasant co-incidence that at the time of winning the Junior World Cup in 2001, the Indian team was led by a Punjabi player-Gaganajit Singh.
S. The Deputy Chief Minister further said that this victory gives the Punjab government further encouragement to develop sports infrastructure so as to produce more world beating champions.
