District Administration issues 44 temporary licenses for the sale of firecrackers in Mohali district

Nabaz-e-Punjab Bureau, SAS Nagar, 5 November:
With compliance to the directions of Punjab and Haryana High court to observe the clean and green Diwali, the district administration conducted the draw of lots under the guidance of District Magistrate Mr. Girish Dayalan to issue temporary licenses to the vendors for selling of firecrackers in SAS Nagar.
The draw for issuing the licenses was held at District Administrative Complex Sector-76 in the presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner (D) Ms. Aashika Jain, and Assistant Commissioner (G) Mr. Yashpal Sharma, Joint Commissioner Dr. Kanu Thind and District Attorney (administration) Kuldeep Singh. As per the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, temporary licenses were to be restricted to 20% of the licenses issued in 2016.
Deputy Commissioner Mr. Girish Dayalan said that the administration had received a total 771 applications, however one application was rejected and 770 were up to the mark. Total 44 temporary licences in the District have been issued to the vendors.
Divulging more, he said that we have received 497 applications for 18 licences in Mohali and Banur, 54 application for 8 licences in Kharar, Kurali, and Nayagaon, 220 applications for 18 licenses in Derabassi, Lalru and Zirakpur.
Further he said that administration will only allow selling the crackers in 12 designated places in the district. The District Magistrate categorically said that no one will be allowed to burst the crackers before and after the prescribed time & date and sell the crackers without license and illegally store them. In addition, no one will sell or use crackers made in China.
It is pertinent to mention that Punjab and Haryana High Court had restricted authorities from issuing permanent licences to firecracker traders without the court’s permission. It limited the number of temporary licences that can be issued.
Detailing the time of sale and usage of fire-crackers, Dayalan informed that on November 14, the day of Diwali usage would be permitted from 8.00 pm to 10.00 pm and on the day of Gurpurab on November 30 from 4.00 am to 5.00 pm and from 9.00 pm to 10.00 pm within the prescribed sound limit. No resident will use firecrackers before or after these dates and time and will also comply with the orders of the Hon’ble Court, asserted Deputy Commissioner.
Sale of Diwali Firecrackers is permitted on November 12, 13 and 14 while time for the same has been slated from 10:00 am to 7.30 pm and on the occasion of Gurpurab on 29.11.2020 and 30.11.2020 from 10:00 am to 7.30 pm at stalls in designated places.
