Terror strikes in Kharar society during a shootout

Kharar police also registered a case against the gangsters

Terror gripped in the area of Aman Homes near Sunny Enclave in Kharar following the encounter of police and the gangsters in which a gangster was injured during the firing.
The organsied crime control unit (OCCU) of Punjab police in a joint operation with Mohali and Jagraon police today arrested five gangsters during a brief encounter at Aman Homes, Kharar here. The police also recovered six weapons from the possession of the gangsters.
As per the information, around 10 gun shots were fired during the encounter which lasted for over five minutes.
Amarjit Singh, the security guard of the society, said, “I was standing at the gate when cops came and asked me to took them to the flat (on first floor) where the suspects were residing. When the firing started, I was was traumatized at the time of incident as I was standing behind the cops.”
Bhupinder Singh, a resident of the society, said, “I received a call from my neighbour that large number of cops reached here and he asked me to lock all the gates and windows of the house. We kept all the doors shut for around 1.5 hours. When I switched on the TV, I was shocked to see the footages of my society running on the news channels about the encounter. The backside of the society was also surrounded by the cops and we were very afraid on listening the gun shots.”
Harcharan Singh, the owner of the flat, where the suspects were living since July 10, said he had completed all the formalities regarding the police verification of the tenants. He was not present there at the time of incident.
The incident took place around 3 pm today when the team of cops reached the society (Aman Homes) following a tip-off about the hideout of the gangsters. On seeing the cops, the gangsters opened four to five rounds of fire towards them. The police also shot two bullets in defence, which hit on the knees of Johan.
Meanwhile, a case has also been registered at the Sadar Kharar police station today in this connection. Inspector Sukhveer Singh, Station House Officer, said, “On receiving the information about the shootout at Aman Homes, which falls under our jurisdiction, we have registered a case against the five suspects under Sections 307, 353, 186, 120-B of the IPC and the relevant Sections of the Arms Act. The investigation has been started. The police verification of the suspects was not done as it was still under progress with their brocker. We are checking all the angles.”
