On the 350th Birth Anniversary of legendary Sikh General Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Bharat Bhushan Ashu paid floral tributes on behalf of the government of Punjab at Baba Banda Singh Bahadur War Memorial in Chappar Chiri village here. He was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan and other civil and police officers.
He said the history of Punjab is full of great sagas of heroism, patriotism and glory but the place of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur is unmatched as he was instrumental in bringing divine justice for the martyrdom of Baba Fateh Singh and Baba Jorawar Singh, the two younger sons of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. His courage, patriotism and dedication to the nation are an eternal source of inspiration.
The crushing defeat that he inflicted upon the tyrannical Mughal forces at Chapparchiri in 1710, symbolizes the victory of truth and virtue over evil and oppression, said he. Not only did Baba Banda Singh Bahadur crush the Mughal army but also abolished the then prevailing Zamindari System under the Mughals and conferred ownership rights on the tillers. Paying tributes to Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, he called upon all to stand up against injustice. Later, reiterating Punjab Governments commitment towards landless farmers he vowed to protect the rights of tillers/farmers till the last breath. The local guides gave a tour to the place and updated the Minister on the works under progress at the site of the War Memorial.
